ReFeeding Canada One Community At A Time
ReFeed Canada is revolutionizing the food recovery industry with a groundbreaking model which collects excess and unused food, along with agri-food by-products, and turns 100% of it into nutrients to feed humans, livestock, and the soil. Zero landfill, zero industrial compost, just completely recovered food for the Earth.
Recovered nutrition to help feed the planet
Our food system is broken. Over 50% of produced food goes unused, while 10% of people experience ongoing food insecurity. Reducing food waste, feeding people, and repairing the system are the heart of ReFeed’s mission.
Turning unused food into functional nutrition
The concept of Circular Nutrition™ is the key to ReFeed’s food system solution. By recapturing excess nutrition and turning it into food for people, livestock, and the soil, ReFeed keeps food out of the landfill and industrial compost systems, helps feed livestock using existing food supplies, and gives farmers tools to replenish their soil without chemicals.
Giving unused food a second life
ReFeed recovers food for people in two ways. First, it collects and redirects edible fruits and vegetables to Food Banks to help feed those living with food insecurity. It also dehydrates and packages fruits under its own ReFeed Farm brand, for on-the-go healthy snacks with a higher purpose.
Reduces acreage used to grow livestock feed
After redirecting excess food back into the supply chain for people, ReFeed collects the unspoiled portion of the remaining food waste and turns it into plant food mix blended specifically for the health of each species. It then supplies this to farmers who can reduce the amount of field space dedicated to growing livestock feed.
Waste transformed into protein and natural fertilizer
Worms are the greediest and least picky eaters in the ReFeed family. They eat up to half their body weight per day and will happily devour fruits and vegetables in any condition. We put their appetites to work eating everything left over from people and livestock, and the worms turn it into organic, microbially dense worm castings which can be used to naturally fertilize and amend soil.
We collect and redirect unused food from the food industry and work with food banks to quickly redirect these fruits and vegetables to those working to feed the hungry.
We sort and process unused food and turn it into healthy plant-based livestock feed. We aim to help reduce the amount of land given over to growing food exclusively to feed livestock.
Our proprietary worm beds transform food waste into natural fertilizers which can help farmers eliminate the use of synthetic chemicals and move to a more sustainable growing model.
